John S. Nixon has been serving diverse people in a variety of cities, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. since 1976. The Collegedale Church is his third campus assignment. Besides Oakwood College, he has served as senior pastor of the Atlantic Union College Church in South Lancaster, Massachusetts. While on the west coast John held the position of vice president of the Southern California Conference.

John and his wife have three adult children: John II, a minister serving in South Carolina; Paul, an English teacher in Pennsylvania; and Clarise, who recently graduated from Oakwood College. The Nixons became grandparents for the first time in February 2006.
